Water
When we first arrived at Glorious, there was no running water. Julius carried large buckets of water to and from the orphanage each day, which was enough for his own family and to clean all the bowls and plates for the children. The children were always thirsty after running around in the hot sun but never had any water to drink. their hands were also always dirty, but we barely had enough water for them to wash. We had the Arusha water supply come out and install plumbing; however, the city cut off the water supply sometimes for two weeks on end. To ensure the children always had enough water to drink, we built a water tower and bought a 2,000L water tank for water storage.

At the end of 2011, a water well was drilled on the Glorious grounds and additional water storage was added. Glorious now has uninterrupted access to fresh water for drinking, cooking and cleaning - and no more thirsty children!

  School Buildings
Back in 2009, there were 35 children ages 3-6. All of the children were taught together in a small wooden shack as they fought ruthlessly for a spot on one of the benches. We separated the children into three groups based on ability, and taught two classrooms outdoors. When the rainy season came, we had to bring the children back into the shack together and very little was accomplished. A donation from Doug Green and Donna Riccardi enabled us to build a new school for the children, one large enough to house both of the outdoor classrooms.

Toilets
After the school and water projects, we tested the children for HIV. With a few HIV positive children and others with chronic illnesses, the threat of disease transmission was high given the fact we had no toilets. We sought donations from back home and with those from Elizabeth Macdonald and Donna Riccardi, we raised enough money to dig a large enough hole for a septic tank, and to build restrooms with three toilets for the children.

Electricity
After building the classroom it became evident that there wasn’t really enough light in the classroom for the children to see. If the sun wasn’t out, it was very dark and hard to get work done. With a donation from the Pennington Family we were able to install electricity to the classroom, and give the toilets an electric flush. We also have the opportunity to show the children educational videos and the future possibility of computers.

Kitchen
Since the inception of Glorious, Alice has been steadfast in providing daily meals to the children that attend the school. What is more remarkable is that she has been doing it all with nothing more than an open fire and meager kitchen supplies, often with her young son on her back.

With donations that have allowed Glorious to receive electricity and construct a new kitchen Glorious now has what is needed to adequately and efficiently prepare food for all of our children.
