Hannah Ames                           Founder and President

Hannah Ames founded Glorious Orphanage Corporation in March 2010 shortly after returning from volunteering in Tanzania. She graduated from Boston College with a BS in Management and a Minor in Russian, and is currently working as a financial analyst for General Electric’s Energy business. Hannah was born in Houston, TX but moved every few years growing up, spending the majority of her time in Moscow and Houston. Hannah speaks Russian, English, Spanish, and looks forward to practicing her Swahili when returning to Tanzania next year.

 

Donna Riccardi                         Vice President

Donna Riccardi was born in Connecticut and graduated from Fairfield University with a degree in Economics. After an initial career in commercial real estate investment, she decided to pursue her interest in non-profit management and joined the Development Department of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Although she later left the BSO to begin a family, Donna remained an active volunteer, serving as President of the Volunteer Association and a member of the Board of Overseers. Donna has also served in an advisory capacity for the Brimmer and May School, The Rivers School, and the Westwood Elementary School Coalition. She hopes to travel to Tanzania with her family to meet the glorious children of the Glorious Orphanage.

 

Elizabeth Macdonald               Treasurer

Elizabeth Ames Macdonald received a BA in religion from Duke University. Through the 1980s and 1990s, she was a portfolio manager for a money management firm based in Boston. She then switched careers becoming a software technical writer, and now works in IT for Linedata Services, Inc. a financial services computer software company. Elizabeth is Hannah's Godmother and she lives in Westwood, Massachusetts. She and her family have been supporters of Glorious from the time Hannah returned from her first visit.

 

Allie Morrow                               Director

Allie Morrow is from Opelousas, Louisiana. She is attending Louisiana State University and will be graduating in May 2012 with a Bachelor’s degree in Science in Business Management. After college she would like to attend law school. She is a full-time student and photographer. Allie volunteered at Glorious Orphanage with Jacob Weaver from May to June 2010. After volunteering at Glorious Orphanage, Jacob and Allie have had several fundraising events in which they collected gently used toys, clothes, and school supplies. Her photography sends part of its profits to Glorious Orphanage.

 

 

Laura Ames                                Director

Laura Ames graduated from the University of Georgia with a BA in Cultural Anthropology. She was born and raised in Atlanta, GA but after college began moving around the world with her husband and their children. Laura is an avid cook and ran a small cooking business out of her own kitchen to cater to the expatriate community while she lived in Moscow. A former preschool teacher, Laura loves children and together with her husband Richard, helped pay for all of the children’s food last fall. Most recently she held cooking lessons to raise funds to rebuild the orphanage’s kitchen. She traveled to Tanzania to visit Glorious in 2011.

 

Richard Ames                            Director

Richard Ames received BS and MS Degrees in Geology from Duke University and The University of Georgia respectively. Through the 1980s and 90s, he served in a variety of exploration and production roles for Amoco Production Company in the US and internationally, working in New Orleans, Houston, Alaska, Moscow, and The Hague. In 2002, Richard returned to Moscow and was appointed Vice President and CIO of Sidanco. He later led the IT integration activities for the creation of TNK-BP, and in 2003 was appointed Vice President and CIO of this young and dynamic company. Richard returned to live in the US in 2011 founded Castine Consulting Commpany. He has been a consistent supporter of Glorious.

 

Veronica Recanati                    Director

Veronica Recanati is from Fermo, Italy. She graduated with a Master degree magna cum laude in Business Communication in 2004. She has lived and worked in Spain, Hungary, The Netherlands and UK and speaks Italian, English, Spanish and some Swahili. She joined Cisco Systems in 2007 after three years of international working experience in sales and marketing fields. She worked as Security Partner Account Manager for the Mediterranean region and coordinated the CSR activities of the Italian Cisco Civic Council. In August 2010 she spent three weeks of volunteering at Glorious Orphanage in Arusha, Tanzania. This experience meant so much to Veronica that once she returned home, she involved Cisco Italy in the project of building a school for the orphanage. She is currently attending an International Master in Sustainable Development and Corporate Responsibility in Madrid and developing a social entrepreneurship project (Twitter: @bridgeforgood). She has two big passions: travels and photography.

 

Katie Carey                                    Director

Katie Carey is from Boston, Massachusetts, yet spent a great deal of her childhood moving around the country.  She graduated from Boston College with a BA in Communications and Marketing and currently works on the Community Connections team at The Coca-Cola Company in Atlanta. After connecting with fellow Boston College classmate and founder, Hannah Ames, in 2010 Katie felt compelled to join the Glorious family and moved to Tanzania. During the seven months she spent at Glorious, she worked on various fundraising projects including construction of a new classroom, a kitchen, the installation of a well and the founding of Glorious Beads project. After visiting the home of each child from Glorious, she was instrumental in the development of the sponsorship program.

 

Lujan Mourad                                Director

Lujan Mourad is Syrian, born and raised in the United Arab Emirates. She got her BS in IT in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. She is currently Sr. Communications & Events Officer for Emirates Foundation, an Abu Dhabi-based philanthropy. Lujan first volunteered at Glorious Orphanage in November 2010 and fell in love with the children. Upon her return to UAE she helped fundraise for the new classroom, for new shoes and secured sponsors for 22 children. Lujan speaks English, Arabic, Turkish, na anasoma Kiswahili. She is a scuba diver and spends many weekends underwater in the Gulf of Oman or Arabian Gulf.
