Food
Food was the first project undertaken at Glorious. Upon arrival, we heard that the children were only being fed once a week. With the help of donations from home, we were able to go to the market each Friday and buy enough food for the children to have two daily meals. We still rely on child sponsorship donations to feed the children and hope that we will continue to find sponsors for each child to be able to cover the costs of food. A typical meal for the children is as follows: for breakfast they have porridge, and for lunch they have either rice and beans, or beans and ugali (a native Tanzanian dish which is a stiff porridge made with maize flour).

Health
Most of the children at Glorious have some sort of chronic health problem needing attention. Many of them have runny noses and persistent coughs, suffer from malnourishment and live in unsanitary conditions. They could greatly benefit from routine medical attention that would likely make a world of difference, since most of their health issues are treatable and preventable.

Supplies
Numerous volunteers have held a variety of campaigns to support the orphanage such as clothes, shoes and school supply drives. Both money and supplies have been raised as a result, and we hope to continue these initiatives in the future in order to assist with the students’ ongoing needs. Some additional needs that we foresee and hope to campaign for are school uniforms, shoes and updated school supplies.

School Expansion
Due to the growing number of children that attend the orphanage, we have recognized that our campus needs to expand as well. We are currently in the process of building additional classrooms in order to accommodate the number of students and offer them the best education possible. We anticipate that even more classrooms will need to be added in the future to insure that the children receive the highest standard of education as they progress and grow.

Land
Many people have asked, “Well, what will happen after Glorious?” Our answer to that is we plan to grow as our children grow. Our dream is to see Glorious grow into a K -12 school with many classrooms, a cafeteria, dormitories, a computer lab and sports facilities. Our current land cannot sustain this expansion, so we will eventually need to purchase and build up this new land to prepare ourselves for the future.

Widows
In addition to the children, Alice looks after a group of widows who meet a few times a week near the orphanage. They currently make jewelry and other goods native to Tanzania. Most of these women are widowed to AIDS and are looking for ways to support their families, which often consists of grandchildren that they look after due to some of their own children having died from AIDS. We are looking to raise money to educate these women on various fronts. We want them to further develop their crafts such as jewelry or fabric making, so that they eventually sell these items for profit and better themselves along with their families.

Farm
Julius has a farm with a bull, a few cows, pigs, goats, and chickens. Apart from looking after the children, Julius spends the majority of his time tending to his animals. He must feed these animals and purchase medicine to ensure that his animals are healthy. The upkeep of the farm is very expensive, and it is Alice and Julius’ source of income to support their family. They use a lot of this money to support the children, even feeding the children the milk and other crops that come from their gardens. We want to help Julius with the upkeep of his farm in order to provide a  sustainable source of food and income for his family and for the orphanage.
